đŸ€ The SwampBNB

How one unique AirBNB is looking to capture the attention of Shrek fans worldwide

Happy Friday. This is The Shake đŸ€: the real estate newsletter that once told you
about some crazy real estate stories.

Here’s what we got this week:

  • Your Next Romantic Getaway? Shrek’s Swamp

MARKET RADAR

The SwampBNB

For all of our readers who are in a relationship, I’m sure you’ve had a similar experience: You open your phone, naturally go to Instagram, and your significant other is in your DMs with 5 different beautiful destinations saying things like “We HAVE to go here.” - Amiright??

Now, generally speaking, they usually fall into one of the following 4 categories:

  • Europe

  • Islands / Tropical

  • Mountains

  • Europe again

BUT, what if I told you, there was a brand new Airbnb that’s sweeping the social media scene - straight out of a fairytale??

😯 Could it be a castle from Beauty and The Beast? You’re warm
 but not exactly.

Instead, it’s Shrek’s Swamp. Yep. Your “person” loves you so much they want to take you to a f—ing swamp.

First announced by Airbnb themselves, you can quite literally stay in a man-made tree, complete with such amenities as dirt floors, the ambiance of “earwax candlelight” (their words verbatim), and I’m just guessing when I say this, but probably a ton of bugs.

Now we’re not haters here at The Shake. I’m writing this as an Airbnb Superhost myself (nottttaaa big deal), but I just can’t wrap my head around this one. Though I would never stay here myself, these guys did a pretty incredible job. Check it out:

Allow us to answer all of the FAQs on this destination.

The home is located in Scotland in the Scottish Highlands. It’s secluded, but not in the middle of nowhere.

It’s actually on the grounds of the Ardverikie Estate, which is a 19th-century Scottish mansion, located about 60 miles south of Inverness. Movie and TV enthusiasts might also recognize this estate from the James Bond movie "No Time To Die" and popular TV shows like "Outlander" and "The Crown."

Every dad’s face when they ask their kid where they want to go on a family vacation and they say “I just saw Shrek’s real swamp on Tik Tok!! Can we go?!”

They’re also running a promotion right now for a free two-night stay. Only one “lucky” group will secure a two-night stay, with the dates set for October 27-29. While you'll need to handle your own travel arrangements to this Highland haven, the good news is that your stay at Shrek's house will be completely free!

What Airbnb is doing here is pretty awesome. The company has pledged to make a donation to the HopScotch Children’s Charity. Love to hear that.

Now, you might be wondering what exactly awaits you in Shrek's swamp. Well, if the images provided by Airbnb are any indication, you can expect a faithful recreation of Shrek’s humble, swampy abode. Think wooden furniture, tree trunk accents, and a rustic forest setting. And in true Shrek style, there's a twist: the bathroom is located 20 meters away from the main building. I couldn’t help but crack up about that detail.

The Ardverikie Estate is surrounded by natural beauty, from the stunning Loch Laggan, framed by towering hills, to the wild allure of the Cairngorms National Park. There’s endless nature to check out just around the Airbnb itself.

All jokes aside, this movie was an absolute gem. It's incredible to think that over two decades since the original Shrek movie won the 2002 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Like most things, there have been a ton of spin-offs, sequels, and tourist attractions (like this Airbnb), but I can still quote this movie from start to finish with ease.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this Airbnb and how popular it grows to become (I bet it’ll crush it).

I do know one thing it’s missing, though, and that’s a live music performance:
